Former Gayhurst pupils Daniel and Edwin Grimster have gone on to achieve remarkable success in very different but equally impressive fields.

Edwin pursued his passion for rowing after leaving LVS, earning a place at Oxford Brookes University, where he combined a sports science degree with a deep involvement in the rowing community. Graduating with a 2:2, he has since taken his career in a new direction, working as an IT consultant for Deloitte.

Meanwhile, his brother Daniel followed an academic path in economics and business at Sussex University, graduating with a 2:1 — a result he reportedly enjoys reminding Edwin of. After a varied career, Daniel’s determination led him to Sandhurst, where he completed officer training. In December 2024, he was commissioned into the Royal Signals regiment, a proud milestone for both him and his family.

Their father, Ian Grimster, credits their time at Gayhurst as a formative influence on their character and achievements. “I have no doubt that their time at Gayhurst was a significant factor in their careers,” he reflected.

Celebrations around Daniel’s passing-out parade were not without a touch of humour. Edwin, fresh from a particularly festive Christmas dinner, just managed to attend the occasion — though, according to Ian, Daniel himself may have been in an even worse state after the traditional ball.
